Abu Dhabi's first low-cost airline has added another destination to its growing network.

Air Arabia Abu Dhabi will begin flying to Sudan from the UAE on October 7.

Flights to the Sudanese capital of Khartoum will operate via an Airbus A320neo. The airline will operate to Sudan three times per week.

Outbound flights are scheduled to leave Abu Dhabi International Airport at 7.50pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Return services will depart Khartoum International Airport at 10.45pm.

The new route is the sixth to be added to Air Arabia Abu Dhabi's network. The low-cost airline launched in July 2020 and the airline also flies to Cairo, Alexandria, Sohag, Kabul and Dhaka.

Launching in a global pandemic saw Air Arabia Abu Dhabi commence flying with enhanced safety measures in place on all flights. These include High Efficiency Particulate Arrestance air filters in cabins, cabin crew wearing full PPE and food and drink served in hygienic sealed packages.

Travellers flying with Air Arabia from the UAE can get a Covid-19 PCR test in partnership with NMC Hospitals. With an Air Arabia booking, the cost of the service is Dh150 and there are locations in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah where tests can be carried out. Home testing is also available for a cost of Dh190.

Know before you go
  • Jebel Akhdar is a two-hour drive from Muscat airport or a six-hour drive from Dubai. It’s impossible to visit by car unless you have a 4x4. Phone ahead to the hotel to arrange a transfer.
  • If you’re driving, make sure your insurance covers Oman.
  • By air: Budget airlines Air Arabia, Flydubai and SalamAir offer direct routes to Muscat from the UAE.
  • Tourists from the Emirates (UAE nationals not included) must apply for an Omani visa online before arrival at evisa.rop.gov.om. The process typically takes several days.
  • Flash floods are probable due to the terrain and a lack of drainage. Always check the weather before venturing into any canyons or other remote areas and identify a plan of escape that includes high ground, shelter and parking where your car won’t be overtaken by sudden downpours.
