In his four years as US President, Donald Trump has racked up the air miles with visits to several countries around the world.

Before the coronavirus pandemic, Trump was frequently heading off on overseas trips, for business and pleasure. Since Covid-19 hit, however, he's been largely grounded in the US where he is now vying for another four years in the White House.

With all eyes on the presidential race, and while we wait for the results to roll in, we take a look at some of the places that Trump visited during his four years as Potus.

Afghanistan

Trump made an unannounced visit to US troops in Afghanistan – his first time visiting the country – for the Thanksgiving in 2019. The trip was shrouded in secrecy with the president's team citing security reasons.

Canada

Despite Canada being the US's closest neighbour, Trump has only made one visit to the country in his four years as president, in June 2018.

France

Trump's favourite destination over the past few years has been France. He has made four trips to the country, visiting Paris, Normandy and Biarritz. On one trip to Paris, he had dinner with his wife Melania at the Michelin-starred restaurant in the Eiffel Tower.

India

The last country Trump visited was India, where he flew in for a two-day visit in February 2020 before the global pandemic halted international travel. The 'Namaste Trump' tour saw him address crowds of more than 100,000 people, and he also found time to visit the Taj Mahal in Agra.

Israel

One of the first places that Trump travelled to after winning the White House was Israel. He visited Jerusalem's Buraq Wall and met Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank.

North Korea

In June 2019, Trump made history with a visit to North Korea when he became the first sitting American commander-in-chief to set foot in the country. There, he met the leader Kim Jong-un at the heavily fortified Demilitarised Zone.

Philippines

Trump flew to the Philippines in 2017, where he met President Rodrigo Duterte. The pair had built up something of a friendship in the run-up to their meeting, which came at the end of a November trip across Asia.

Saudi Arabia

Trump's first foreign trip after becoming president was to Saudi Arabia. In May 2017, he flew to the kingdom with wife Melania for an eight-day visit. Trump was greeted in Riyadh by King Salman.

Scotland

Trump has been to the UK several times since becoming president, and in the summer of 2018 he headed to Scotland to spend a week at his Turnberry golf resort. While he played with his son Eric, protesters gathered outside the resort, with one unfurling a banner from a paraglider that read: "Trump, well below par."

Vatican City

In 2017, Trump travelled to Rome and Vatican City where he met Pope Francis. He was joined by Melania and his daughter, Ivanka, who each opted to wear conservative black dresses and veils – the latter is a Vatican non-compulsory protocol for women. The pope gave Trump a medallion of an olive tree as a symbol of the need for global peace.
