Things to do in the UAE this week, from a free film screening to a night brunch

Whether you're looking for relaxation, fitness or some outdoor fun, there's plenty happening around the UAE this week.

For those interested in mental well-being, there's a free online self-care workshop by Dr John Crimmins at Illuminations well-being centre. Fitness enthusiasts can join a mobility and stretch class at Abu Dhabi's Yas Mall, while mothers can enjoy a child-friendly movie experience at Roxy Cinemas in Dubai.

Monday, August 12

Illuminations well-being centre is hosting a free online workshop about self-awareness and self-care with psychotherapist Dr John Crimmins. The one-hour session focuses on anxiety and depression and aims to equip participants with the knowledge and tools to better cope or aid those who are seeking to help others with their mental health. Tuesday, August 13

Yas Mall has a two-week fitness and wellness programme called Move this Summer. It consists of core conditioning, function fitness, bootcamp, high intensity interval training, mobility and stretch and yoga sessions. On Tuesday, there is a one-hour mobility and stretch class at Cloud Spaces, starting at 4.30pm.

Wednesday, August 14

Roxy Cinemas has launched a Mama’s Club that takes place bi-weekly at Dubai Hills Mall on Wednesdays. The event invites mothers to watch their favourite films at the Roxy Platinum in a child-friendly environment with lights dimmed and volume lowered. As part of the package, there is breakfast, as well as free popcorn and water or soda served right to the platinum seats inside. Mums will also get a goodie bag by Filorga, a French skincare brand. This week’s film is The Garfield Movie.

Thursday, August 15

There's a free showing of the 1955 romantic-comedy Summertime starring Katharine Hepburn as part of the restored classics programme at Cinema Space. Directed by David Lean, the film stars Hepburn as a lonely single American who travels to Venice, Italy for a vacation. While there, she unexpectedly falls in love with a charming – but married – Italian man, leading to a bittersweet romance that transforms her outlook on life. Prior registration for the screening is required.

Friday, August 16

Hakkasan Abu Dhabi is hosting a night brunch every Friday, starting at 8pm. The three-hour event takes place on the terrace and includes a set menu created for the occasion, as well as unlimited drinks. Menu items include Peking duck with cavier, dim sum, lobster lychee yuzu pearl, har gau and stir-fry roasted duck lettuce wrap.

Saturday, August 17

Wild Wadi Waterpark is celebrating its 25th anniversary throughout the month of August with special activities and offers. During the weekends, there will be a live DJ at the wave pool from 10am to 6pm. On Saturdays, there will be a performance by African drummers at 4pm while on Sundays, children can enjoy arts and crafts from 3pm to 5.30pm. UAE residents will also get a 30 per cent discount on day passes.

Sunday, August 18

Louvre Abu Dhabi is hosting weekly themed painting sessions in their Art Studio where an easel, paint, canvas and basic art materials will be provided. Led by a museum educator, this 30-minute class aims to help inspire creativity through skill development activity. Afterwards, there is also a 15 per cent discount on selected menu items from Aptitudes Cafe.
