Dazzling fireworks displays will light up the sky in the UAE to celebrate Eid Al Adha with celebrations taking place at several spots across Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Here's where to go if you want to embrace the festivities with a bang.
Dubai Festival City Mall
The mall's Festival Bay will put on a fireworks show on Thursday at 9pm.
Ahead of the sparkling display, while away the hours by catching a bite at one of the many restaurants dotted around the waterfront arena.
The Bay is also home to the gigantic screens that are part of Imagine, the award-winning fountain, laser and sound projection that puts on daily shows after sunset.
Lapita Hotel, Dubai
The Polynesian-themed hotel at Dubai Parks and Resorts will have a fireworks display every day from Tuesday to Saturday, with the event starting at 9pm.
The only hotel at Dubai Parks & Resorts also has a kids-go-free offer, where children under 12 can stay and dine for free when accompanied by a paying adult. Youngsters can also enjoy a meet-and-greet with characters from the Emirati animated series Shaabiat Al Cartoon on Friday and Saturday next week, as well as daily interactions with the hotel's Smurf mascots.
Yas Bay, Abu Dhabi
The popular Yas Island destination will host fireworks shows on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, at 9pm. These can be viewed from the walkway of the waterfront destination, or from one of the many surrounding restaurants.
Al Hudayriyat Island, Abu Dhabi
The leisure, fitness and entertainment hub will host a fireworks show on Thursday at 9pm. It can be viewed from the 3,000-hectare island's Marsana area.
Developers Modon Properties recently announced new attractions for the island, which already has an obstacle and bike park, plus Trail X and Circuit X. The new venues will include: Surf Abu Dhabi, Velodrome Abu Dhabi and the emirate's largest urban park.
Abu Dhabi Corniche
Continuing a long tradition, visitors can enjoy the light show on the Abu Dhabi Corniche that stretches 8km along the waterfront. There are also many restaurants at Nation Towers that offer ideal views of the spectacle. Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental also has a splendid view of the fireworks.
Hazza bin Zayed Stadium
Residents in Al Ain can head over to the multipurpose Hazza bin Zayed Stadium – which has 25,000 seats and is home to Al Ain FC – to watch fireworks for the occasion.
Madinat Zayed Public Park
Those in Abu Dhabi’s western Al Dafrah region can visit Madinat Zayed Public Park to enjoy a dazzling light show for Eid Al Adha in the spacious park.
Al Mugheirah Beach
Al Mugheirah Bay in Al Dhafra will have Eid-themed festivities along with the dazzle of fireworks. The popular Abu Dhabi venue has set up an Eid Entertainment Zone, complete with music, colourful parades and LED shows.

What sanctions would be reimposed?

Why it pays to compare
A comparison of sending Dh20,000 from the UAE using two different routes at the same time - the first direct from a UAE bank to a bank in Germany, and the second from the same UAE bank via an online platform to Germany - found key differences in cost and speed. The transfers were both initiated on January 30.
Route 1: bank transfer
The UAE bank charged Dh152.25 for the Dh20,000 transfer. On top of that, their exchange rate margin added a difference of around Dh415, compared with the mid-market rate.
Total cost: Dh567.25 - around 2.9 per cent of the total amount
Total received: €4,670.30
Route 2: online platform
The UAE bank’s charge for sending Dh20,000 to a UK dirham-denominated account was Dh2.10. The exchange rate margin cost was Dh60, plus a Dh12 fee.
Total cost: Dh74.10, around 0.4 per cent of the transaction
Total received: €4,756
The UAE bank transfer was far quicker – around two to three working days, while the online platform took around four to five days, but was considerably cheaper. In the online platform transfer, the funds were also exposed to currency risk during the period it took for them to arrive.

Conflict, drought, famine
Estimates of the number of deaths caused by the famine range from 400,000 to 1 million, according to a document prepared for the UK House of Lords in 2024.
It has been claimed that the policies of the Ethiopian government, which took control after deposing Emperor Haile Selassie in a military-led revolution in 1974, contributed to the scale of the famine.
Dr Miriam Bradley, senior lecturer in humanitarian studies at the University of Manchester, has argued that, by the early 1980s, “several government policies combined to cause, rather than prevent, a famine which lasted from 1983 to 1985. Mengistu’s government imposed Stalinist-model agricultural policies involving forced collectivisation and villagisation [relocation of communities into planned villages].
The West became aware of the catastrophe through a series of BBC News reports by journalist Michael Buerk in October 1984 describing a “biblical famine” and containing graphic images of thousands of people, including children, facing starvation.
Band Aid

Why your domicile status is important
