Dubai has been named one of the most affordable cities for parking in the world.
In the newly released 2020 Parking Price Index, which looks at the average cost of parking in major cities around the world, Dubai came out as the eighth cheapest, ranking 68.6 per cent below the median cost of parking around the globe.
The study, published by UK car maintenance service Fixter, looked at the average cost to park at airports, shopping centres, stadiums, city halls and on-street.
It found that in Dubai, the average cost of an hour’s parking at the city’s airports was $1.36 (Dh5), $2.72 (Dh10) for shopping centres, $1.09 (Dh4) for on-street and $0.54 (Dh2) for city halls, while stadium parking in the emirate was free.
The figures put Dubai at number 58 out of the 65 cities surveyed.
New York came in as the most expensive city in the world for parking, with the average cost sitting at 354.75 per cent above average.
The cost of an hour’s parking at a shopping centre in the city was $30, while parking at a stadium costs an average of $33.
Boston came in next, with prices costing 282.85 per cent above average, while Sydney was the third most expensive, charging 210.98 per cent more.
London, Brisbane, Philadelphia, Chicago, Minneapolis, San Francisco and Washington made up the top 10, showing the US to be the country with the overall highest cost of parking in the world.
At the opposite end of the scale, Delhi had the lowest cost of parking of the 65 cities included in the study, with prices falling more than 80 per cent below the average cost.
An hour’s parking at the city’s airports costs an average of $2.10, while a car park in a shopping district costs $0.28. It should be noted, however, that the cost of on-street parking was not available.
Buenos Aires was a very close second, with the average cost falling 79.96 per cent below average.
Cape Town, Mumbai, Beijing, Shanghai and Mexico City came in just below Dubai. Singapore and Bogota made up the top 10 cheapest places.

When Umm Kulthum performed in Abu Dhabi
Known as The Lady of Arabic Song, Umm Kulthum performed in Abu Dhabi on November 28, 1971, as part of celebrations for the fifth anniversary of the accession of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan as Ruler of Abu Dhabi. A concert hall was constructed for the event on land that is now Al Nahyan Stadium, behind Al Wahda Mall. The audience were treated to many of Kulthum's most well-known songs as part of the sold-out show, including Aghadan Alqak and Enta Omri.

Day 2, Dubai Test: At a glance
Moment of the day Pakistan’s effort in the field had hints of shambles about it. The wheels were officially off when Wahab Riaz lost his run up and aborted the delivery four times in a row. He re-measured his run, jogged in for two practice goes. Then, when he was finally ready to go, he bailed out again. It was a total cringefest.
Stat of the day – 139.5 Yasir Shah has bowled 139.5 overs in three innings so far in this Test series. Judged by his returns, the workload has not withered him. He has 14 wickets so far, and became history’s first spinner to take five-wickets in an innings in five consecutive Tests. Not bad for someone whose fitness was in question before the series.
The verdict Stranger things have happened, but it is going to take something extraordinary for Pakistan to keep their undefeated record in Test series in the UAE in tact from this position. At least Shan Masood and Sami Aslam have made a positive start to the salvage effort.
