In typical stealth mode, Jaguar Land Rover has revealed that it is expanding its line of electric vehicles by adding a new plug-in hybrid system in its best-selling SUV models, the Range Rover Evoque and the Land Rover Discovery Sport.
The company said these newest models, each with a positively minuscule and no-doubt efficient 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine, can veer between electric-only mode for shorter rides, petrol-and-electric driving for longer distances, or, indeed, petrol power alone.
"While being driven, energy generated by the engine during acceleration, or by braking in electric or hybrid mode, is harvested and used to charge the battery," Jaguar Land Rover said in a statement, adding that its latest hybrid system emits lower emissions than before.
Jaguar Land Rover already has a number of electrified products across its model range, embracing fully electric, plug-in hybrid and mild-hybrid vehicles.
In addition to the Discovery Sport and Evoque, mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid options are also offered on the flagship Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles. Similar features will be available on the new Defender later this year.
Jaguar Land Rover was the first company to launch an all-electric performance SUV, the I-PACE, and has confirmed it plans to transform its Castle Bromwich facility in the UK to manufacture a range of new electrified vehicles, starting with the Jaguar XJ.
A release date of "late 2020" was confirmed for the UAE market, but prices are yet to be confirmed.
