When Ram announces new vehicles, fans of the brand don’t expect anything too dainty. They won’t be disappointed, then, by the arrival in the Middle East of the 2500 Power Wagon. The name says it all, really.
This latest crag flattener, which is party of Ram’s Heavy Duty range, is being touted as the world’s most capable off-road production pick-up truck. It is, the manufacturers say, an homage to the Dodge Power Wagon, a desert workhorse much in abundance during the Middle East’s initial oil boom in the 1950s and 1960s.
This latest version has been fitted with Ram’s 6.4-litre V8 engine, which will pump out 410 horsepower, and the driver can choose between 40 different options to maximise fuel economy and performance, depending on what is required.
The Power Wagon comes with exterior design features that set it apart in the 2500 range, including 17-inch matte black and aluminum polished wheels with all-terrain tyres, body decals, dark LED headlamps and taillamps, and powder-coated bumpers and grille.
Vehicles like this used to be on the basic side, but Ram has been taking the opposite approach for some years now. The Power Wagon has all the technology and materials featured in the 1500, the cabin of which resembles much pricier, top-of-the-range 4x4s.
Inside the new arrival, you'll find the 1500's sizeable 12-inch touchscreen. Seating-wise, it's all leather in there, and a 750-watt sound system is in situ should you need Danger Zone from Top Gun blaring out at top volume. You'll be able to hear it more clearly too, as there's an active noise cancellation system which will reduce engine roar by 10 decibels, making it the quietest Ram Heavy Duty ever.
The Power Wagon is here in the UAE now, and it’ll cost you Dh289,900 should you need its largesse in your life.
