BMW has just unleashed imagery and specs for its new M3 and M4 vehicles, a pair of tarmac hooligans beloved by speed fiends the world over.
This is the sixth generation of the M class, which has a history stretching back some 35 years, and new arrivals in it always provoke a degree of excitement.
They don’t, of course, disappoint power-wise.
The new models are fitted out with a 3-litre turbocharged engine that will get you from 0-100 kilometres per hour in 4.2 seconds in the M3 sedan and the M4 coupe, but that goes down to 3.9 seconds in the special Competition versions.
And there's no mistaking what these vehicles are from the outside. The manufacturer has added its daunting kidney grille to the front of the new cars, there are newly sculpted wheel arches, and they're a few millimetres wider than their predecessors, but it's still obvious these are BMW M models.
Inside, the manufacturer assures us it’s been “ergonomically optimised”, with displays and controls specific to the M brand. The Merino leather sports seats have been upgraded and the selection of driver assistance systems has been expanded, too.
It’s all part of what BMW refers to as a “familiar blend of dynamism, agility and precision”, paired with “everyday usability and long-distance capability”.
The price is yet to be confirmed, but the new M3 and M4 should be making their way to UAE shores in March 2021.

Etihad and Emirates fly direct to Kolkata from Dh1,504 and Dh1,450 return including taxes, respectively. The flight takes four hours 30 minutes outbound and 5 hours 30 minute returning.
The trains
Numerous trains link Kolkata and Murshidabad but the daily early morning Hazarduari Express (3’ 52”) is the fastest and most convenient; this service also stops in Plassey. The return train departs Murshidabad late afternoon. Though just about feasible as a day trip, staying overnight is recommended.
The hotels
Mursidabad’s hotels are less than modest but Berhampore, 11km south, offers more accommodation and facilities (and the Hazarduari Express also pauses here). Try Hotel The Fame, with an array of rooms from doubles at Rs1,596/Dh90 to a ‘grand presidential suite’ at Rs7,854/Dh443.

FlyDubai flies direct from Dubai to Skopje in five hours from Dh1,314 return including taxes. Hourly buses from Skopje to Ohrid take three hours.
The tours
English-speaking guided tours of Ohrid town and the surrounding area are organised by Cultura 365; these cost €90 (Dh386) for a one-day trip including driver and guide and €100 a day (Dh429) for two people.
