SYDNEY // While many of us have accused other drivers of being blind in a fit of frustration, in Australia they went a step further by giving a legally blind man a driving licence. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Charles Knox, who received a medical discharge from the army after being blinded in 2007, was granted a driver's licence by the Roads and Traffic Authority. Knox did not try to hide his condition, he ticked the box on the application form saying he had a "vision condition" that might affect his driving, he used as identification a pensioner card stating he was blind and used a large magnifying glass when filling out the forms. "Despite being very dangerous,'' Knox told the Australian newspaper, "it's still very funny." After the RTA investigated the incident they said: "The RTA has reviewed its records and is satisfied all procedures have been correctly followed." Knox gets to keep his licence.
