Mercedes-Benz unveiled its first all-electric SUV, the EQC, earlier this month, and its German compatriot Audi has now entered the battery-powered race by taking the wraps off its long-mooted e-tron.
The first fully electric production model from Audi, the e-tron – a sporty full-size SUV – was revealed earlier today (UAE time) in San Francisco.
Much like the EQC, it is powered by two electric motors, and as per Audi's quattro modus operandi, the e-tron has all-wheel drive.
The battery recovers energy from regenerative braking – or, as the company puts it, "during far more than 90 per cent of all decelerations" – with a range of 400 kilometres.
Audi also claims a world first in its virtual exterior mirrors, which are available as an option on the e-tron and reduce aerodynamic drag.
The first deliveries in Europe are expected later this year, with a starting price of €79,900 (Dh343,187). The e-tron will hit the Middle East in autumn next year, with regional prices to be announced.
