The all-new 2020 Toyota Corolla has had the sheets pulled off in a fizzing affair in Dubai, an event complete with the usual automotive fanfare as well as a mini-web show featuring local comedians. This latest version is joining the hybrid powertrain pack, which is a first for the model, and it’s had a total body makeover as well. In fact, the company claim the changes it’s undergone make it the most radical reworking of the car since it was first introduced back in 1966. The new Corolla has three powertrain options, including 1.6 and 2-litre petrol versions. Meanwhile, the electrified hybrid combines two power sources consisting of a traditional engine and two electric motors. All versions have a lower centre of gravity, a more rigid body shell and multi-link suspension. Inside, the seats have extra cushioning and buyers can opt for either a 4.2 or 7-inch multi-information display. To celebrate the launch, Al Futtaim Toyota, the UAE distributor, also introduced a mini-web show entitled When a Hybrid Nation Smiles. It depicts the story of three colleagues who come from different backgrounds, to form a typical hybrid society (see what they did there?), representing the marque's customer mix in the UAE. The characters are played by comics Ali Al Sayed, Muhnnad Al Hattab and Adithya Thomas. The new Corolla is being promoted as the world’s favourite family sedan, and you’d have a hard time arguing with that as it’s sold 47 million units since its inception. It’s on sale in the UAE now, priced from Dh71,900 – Dh 95,900.
