Moschino sends puppets down miniature runway for spring / summer 2020 show

In order to begin anew, you have to start small. That’s the message from Jeremy Scott, creative director of Moschino, who has unveiled his spring / summer 2020 collection in minute form.

Presented as a short film, the collection was shown on a series of puppets, all decked in Moschino’s latest creations. Crafted by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, the marionettes walked down a suitably small runway, flanked by a front row also consisting of puppet figures, including one that looked suspiciously like Anna Wintour.

“As the world seems to be splitting along the seams, the bare inner workings of something new will be exposed,” says Scott.

The world is topsy-turvy, upside-down, inside-out and unendingly surreal, according to Scott. The fashion rulebook is being rewritten and the industry’s inner workings are being laid bare.

And so, for his latest creations, edges, seams, corsetry boning, panels, darts and trims appear on the outside of the garments. Pant pockets flap freely, a zipper on a halter dress is inverted, ending in a golden jacquard trim sewn on backwards, and dresses are crafted inversely, with tulle under-skirts extending beyond hemlines, to create unconventional proportions and silhouettes.

The colour palette has been softened into pale golds, princess blues, pea greens and pretty pinks. It’s a touch of quiet in an all-too noisy world.
