Fans have been trying to get a glimpse of Hollaback Girl star Gwen Stefani's impressive engagement ring for weeks, ever since country singer Blake Shelton popped the question. And this week, the No Doubt frontwoman, 51, obliged, flashing the sparkler in an Instagram story.
Here, we take a look at some of the most impressive and expensive celebrity engagement rings ...
1. Gwen Stefani
Saying 'I do' to country star Shelton in October, the Rich Girl singer has been coy about flashing her diamond. However eagle-eyed, fans caught a glimpse of the rock during one of Stefani's Instagram stories, and it's a big one.
It's estimated to be worth about $500,000 by Ajay Anand, the founder of diamond search engine Rare Carat, who told Insider: "We're looking at a gorgeous eight-carat, radiant-shape diamond with trapezoid sides … We're talking $500,000 in all."
2. Demi Lovato
Although her two-month engagement to actor Max Ehrich has now been very publicly called off, for a short while, the singer was sporting one of the most impressive diamonds in Hollywood. Under the Dome star Ehrich popped the question with a $1 million ring that E! News reported was partly "made from a diamond that was hers, part of it was his".
In July, when the couple got engaged, jeweller Mehul Pethani, from Cara Jewellers in Dubai, estimated that the large diamond is seven to eight carats, telling The National that the ring "would [have] cost Dh500,000 to Dh700,000" to buy in the UAE, "depending on the quality of diamonds".
3. Mariah Carey
The multi-million-selling singer shocked fans when she announced her engagement to billionaire Australian businessman James Packer back in 2016. Packer popped the question with a $10 million diamond ring, but the engagement fizzled within a year, with the mogul saying: "It was a mistake for her and a mistake for me."
4. Ciara
Estimated to be worth between $2 to $2.5 million, the American singer's engagement ring is a flawless 16-carat diamond. Given to her by her NFL star husband Russell Wilson, the centre diamond features trapezoid and pear-shaped diamonds on either side.
5. Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge
One of the most famous engagement rings in the world, the 18-carat sapphire once belonged to the late Diana, Princess of Wales. Set in white gold, the main stone is surrounded by 14 solitaire-cut diamonds.
6. Anna Kournikova
The former tennis player features two engagement rings from her singer fiance, Enrique Iglesias. And her favourite appears to be the pear-shaped, 11-carat pink diamond, which is worth about $2.5 million.
7. Avril Lavigne
Nickelback's Chad Kroeger popped the question to the Skater Boi singer after only one month of dating back in 2012, with their marriage lasting two years. But the ring the How You Remind Me singer gave his temporary beloved was an incredible 14-carat pear-cut diamond, which he followed up by giving her a 17-carat diamond on their first anniversary.
8. Kim Kardashian
For the second of her three engagements, Kardashian was presented with a 16.2-carat ring by basketball player Kris Humphries. Worth about $2.6 million, the reality TV star gave it back to Humphries after their 72-day marriage came to an end.
9. Hailey Baldwin Bieber
Justin Bieber popped the question to the model with an oval-shaped diamond said to be in the region of $500,000. With Bieber getting down on one knee in the Bahamas in 2018, Baldwin told Vogue of the proposal: "We were alone in a house, just the two of us. It was very special."
10. Amal Clooney
Hollywood star George Clooney is estimated to have forked out about $750,000 for the ring he gave to human rights lawyer, Amal. The seven-carat, emerald-cut diamond was ethically mined and set in platinum.

What the law says
Micro-retirement is not a recognised concept or employment status under Federal Decree Law No. 33 of 2021 on the Regulation of Labour Relations (as amended) (UAE Labour Law). As such, it reflects a voluntary work-life balance practice, rather than a recognised legal employment category, according to Dilini Loku, senior associate for law firm Gateley Middle East.
“Some companies may offer formal sabbatical policies or career break programmes; however, beyond such arrangements, there is no automatic right or statutory entitlement to extended breaks,” she explains.
“Any leave taken beyond statutory entitlements, such as annual leave, is typically regarded as unpaid leave in accordance with Article 33 of the UAE Labour Law. While employees may legally take unpaid leave, such requests are subject to the employer’s discretion and require approval.”
If an employee resigns to pursue micro-retirement, the employment contract is terminated, and the employer is under no legal obligation to rehire the employee in the future unless specific contractual agreements are in place (such as return-to-work arrangements), which are generally uncommon, Ms Loku adds.

Where to buy art books in the UAE
There are a number of speciality art bookshops in the UAE.
In Dubai, The Lighthouse at Dubai Design District has a wonderfully curated selection of art and design books. Alserkal Avenue runs a pop-up shop at their A4 space, and host the art-book fair Fully Booked during Art Week in March. The Third Line, also in Alserkal Avenue, has a strong book-publishing arm and sells copies at its gallery. Kinokuniya, at Dubai Mall, has some good offerings within its broad selection, and you never know what you will find at the House of Prose in Jumeirah. Finally, all of Gulf Photo Plus’s photo books are available for sale at their show.
In Abu Dhabi, Louvre Abu Dhabi has a beautiful selection of catalogues and art books, and Magrudy’s – across the Emirates, but particularly at their NYU Abu Dhabi site – has a great selection in art, fiction and cultural theory.
In Sharjah, the Sharjah Art Museum sells catalogues and art books at its museum shop, and the Sharjah Art Foundation has a bookshop that offers reads on art, theory and cultural history.

Vanuatu: $130,000
Why on earth pick Vanuatu? Easy. The South Pacific country has no income tax, wealth tax, capital gains or inheritance tax. And in 2015, when it was hit by Cyclone Pam, it signed an agreement with the EU that gave it some serious passport power.
