#LightItBlue: Abu Dhabi landmarks shine bright to honour essential workers

The global #LightItBlue campaign sees landmarks around the world united to shine a light honouring frontline and essential workers during the coronavirus outbreak

Buildings and landmarks around Abu Dhabi were illuminated in blue on Thursday night to honour frontline and essential workers during the coronavirus outbreak.

The gesture was part of the global #LightItBlue campaign which saw landmarks around the world light up in support.

Covid-19 was discovered in the Chinese city of Wuhan in late December and within a month it reached the UAE. The latest numbers in the Emirates on Thursday showed 460 new registered cases of coronavirus, taking the country's total to 5,825.

A new global survey ranked the UAE among the top 10 countries in the world for coronavirus treatment. Conducted by the Deep Knowledge Group, a consortium of technology companies and non-profit groups, the survey considered 200 data points for each country to compile the list.

It placed Germany, China, South Korea, Austria and Hong Kong in the top five. Next was Singapore, Taiwan, Israel and Japan, with the UAE in 10th place.

The Covid-19 Treatment Efficiency Ranking Framework assesses countries based on the sophistication and effectiveness of efforts to monitor the spread of the virus.

It also takes into account treatment of patients, and the capacity to develop, test, validate and use experimental vaccines and treatments.The data came from sources including the World Health Organisation and Johns Hopkins University.
