A glimpse inside a royal room is a rare but noteworthy occasion for any avid royal watcher.

In the past, they were vastly limited to December, when Queen Elizabeth II would film her annual Christmas Message from the drawing rooms of Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle.

However, as people continue to spend more time indoors as the pandemic continues, British royal engagements have been run from the family's homes via video conference, so they have become more commonplace in the past year.

Few insights, however, are as intimate as a look inside Princess Anne's home, which royal fans were given this weekend.

On the official Royal Family Instagram account, a photo was shared of the Princess Royal with her husband, Sir Timothy Laurence, watching England and Scotland play rugby in the Calcutta Cup game during the Six Nations Championship.

Fans have had a lot to say about the "cosy" and "traditional" living space, which is packed full of ornaments and classic furniture, with a number of framed pictures on the wall.

"I love that their house looks like anyone’s grandmothers house," one fan wrote of the space, with another writing: "What a lovely, cosy room!"

The heavily furnished room is fitted out with two display cabinets, red floral sofa and armchair seating, many family photos and a coffee table piled high with books and papers. The walls are painted a light green.

Many pointed out that there was a dog bed beside the television and pondered the "history" of the objects on display.

The shot, which certainly does not seem to have been carefully curated for Instagram, gave a "real insight into their lives", said one fan on social media.

"I love that their home looks like an actual home and not something that was set up," said another.

Princess Anne, the patron of Scottish Rugby, spent the night cheering for the Scotland team.

The photo was captioned: "As [the Scotland Rugby] Patron, the Princess Royal often supports the team from the stands.

"Her Royal Highness and Vice Admiral Sir Tim cheered Scotland on from home today as they played England for the Calcutta Cup, 150 years since their first match. Well played, Scotland!"

Scotland won the rugby match 11-6, which was the team's first victory over England at Twickenham since 1983.

What is an FTO Designation?

FTO designations impose immigration restrictions on members of the organisation simply by virtue of their membership and triggers a criminal prohibition on knowingly providing material support or resources to the designated organisation as well as asset freezes.

It is a crime for a person in the United States or subject to the jurisdiction of the United States to knowingly provide “material support or resources” to or receive military-type training from or on behalf of a designated FTO.

Representatives and members of a designated FTO, if they are aliens, are inadmissible to and, in certain circumstances removable from, the United States.

Except as authorised by the Secretary of the Treasury, any US financial institution that becomes aware that it has possession of or control over funds in which an FTO or its agent has an interest must retain possession of or control over the funds and report the funds to the Treasury Department.

Tips to stay safe during hot weather
  • Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of fluids, especially water. Avoid alcohol and caffeine, which can increase dehydration.
  • Seek cool environments: Use air conditioning, fans, or visit community spaces with climate control.
  • Limit outdoor activities: Avoid strenuous activity during peak heat. If outside, seek shade and wear a wide-brimmed hat.
  • Dress appropriately: Wear lightweight, loose and light-coloured clothing to facilitate heat loss.
  • Check on vulnerable people: Regularly check in on elderly neighbours, young children and those with health conditions.
  • Home adaptations: Use blinds or curtains to block sunlight, avoid using ovens or stoves, and ventilate living spaces during cooler hours.
  • Recognise heat illness: Learn the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke (dizziness, confusion, rapid pulse, nausea), and seek medical attention if symptoms occur.
