Antika Dubai is currently showcasing its products in the Hayya Town Centre in Dubai's Springs and Meadows communities. The company specialises in well-preserved, reasonably priced antique furniture items from India and has a host of interesting items on display.
Among these is an "absolutely beautiful dowry chest", says Jerome Dhulst, the founder of Antika Dubai. "This wooden wedding box has small compartments, mirrors and carved drawers and is in excellent condition. It's very rare to find one in such great condition."
Also on offer is a pitara, a very old chest, in its original colours, which can be used as a storage box or as a console. Dhulst also has a selection of handcrafted accessories from Kashmir, including hand-painted papier mache boxes, coasters and fruit plates.
In addition to his affordable antiques, Dhulst offers the fully recycled Scrapwood collection, which is developed by the EMI furniture manufacturing facility in Jodphur, Rajasthan. All wood used for this collection comes from old houses in the northern states of India that have been demolished. The wood's natural colours are preserved, creating multi-hued, entirely unique pieces of furniture that are environmentally friendly.
