When the London-based trends forecaster Laurie Robertson had her working hours reduced during the recession in 2008, she decided to give up her day job altogether and pursue her dreams instead. With a master's degree in printed textiles under her belt, she launched Anorak to sell her own home and outdoor accessories.

Three years later, her graphic printed bags and purses grace the pages of fashion magazines, her products are stocked in shops all over the globe and, instead of working from home alone, she has staff and owns a large converted stable in a leafy corner of south London.
Robertson's designs are inspired by the great outdoors and childhood camping holidays in 1970s England. Her signature range is called Kissing Animals - seagulls, stags, rabbits and horses in silhouette, nose to nose. These prints have a pleasingly retro feel, and the patterns work well on just about anything, from cushions to sleeping bags, picnic cloths to deckchairs.
I've got my eye on the soft lambswool Kissing Horses blanket, which is perfect for draping around your shoulders on a cool evening. I'd also quite like a few metres of the Kissing Stags wipe-clean oilcloth. I would make a great tablecloth - chic and extremely practical. Of course it would be rude not to get the matching place mats and coasters, too.
For summer, Laurie's nautical buys get my vote. Her ropes and boats cushions are a real treat, great for cheering up a patio or balcony. But it's the new Steamer trunk I really crave. It's big enough for a couple of duvets or a truck load of clutter and, although it's designed for storage, it would double up as a very cool coffee table. I'm sold.

Farage on Muslim Brotherhood
Nigel Farage told Reform's annual conference that the party will proscribe the Muslim Brotherhood if he becomes Prime Minister.
"We will stop dangerous organisations with links to terrorism operating in our country," he said. "Quite why we've been so gutless about this – both Labour and Conservative – I don't know.
“All across the Middle East, countries have banned and proscribed the Muslim Brotherhood as a dangerous organisation. We will do the very same.”
It is 10 years since a ground-breaking report into the Muslim Brotherhood by Sir John Jenkins.
Among the former diplomat's findings was an assessment that “the use of extreme violence in the pursuit of the perfect Islamic society” has “never been institutionally disowned” by the movement.
The prime minister at the time, David Cameron, who commissioned the report, said membership or association with the Muslim Brotherhood was a "possible indicator of extremism" but it would not be banned.

Credit Score explained
What is a credit score?
In the UAE your credit score is a number generated by the Al Etihad Credit Bureau (AECB), which represents your credit worthiness – in other words, your risk of defaulting on any debt repayments. In this country, the number is between 300 and 900. A low score indicates a higher risk of default, while a high score indicates you are a lower risk.
Why is it important?
Financial institutions will use it to decide whether or not you are a credit risk. Those with better scores may also receive preferential interest rates or terms on products such as loans, credit cards and mortgages.
How is it calculated?
The AECB collects information on your payment behaviour from banks as well as utilitiy and telecoms providers.
How can I improve my score?
By paying your bills on time and not missing any repayments, particularly your loan, credit card and mortgage payments. It is also wise to limit the number of credit card and loan applications you make and to reduce your outstanding balances.
How do I know if my score is low or high?
By checking it. Visit one of AECB’s Customer Happiness Centres with an original and valid Emirates ID, passport copy and valid email address. Liv. customers can also access the score directly from the banking app.
How much does it cost?
A credit report costs Dh100 while a report with the score included costs Dh150. Those only wanting the credit score pay Dh60. VAT is payable on top.
