Shop here for every type of fabric imaginable: oilcloths, voiles, jerseys, flannelettes, denims and knits as well as an amazing array of Japanese fabrics, some kitsch and cartoony, some elegant and traditional. She also stocks a stunning series of "craft panels" for sewing cushions and bags, and an impressive selection of craft kits for those of us who need instructions.

You'll find fresh, contemporary designer fabrics, too, from well-known Australian textile artists such as Shannon Lamden, Saffron Craig and Kristen Doran. The latest addition to the gang is Tara Davy, an illustrator and magazine designer whose first foray into the world of textile design is a cute retro collection sold exclusively through Kelani. It's right up my street - all 1970s-style birds and hippy flowers, cute hot air balloons and clouds. I also like the fun graphic print fabrics from the Japanese designer Etsuko Furuya, especially the quirky spectacles design.

Baird has recently expanded her offering to include a range of fabulous bespoke fabric lamps and cushion covers - perfect if you prefer your accessories ready-made. You select any fabric on the site, then order a cushion cover, a cylindrical table lamp or a drum lampshade before you check out.

There's no search bar on the site, so you're forced to trawl through pages and pages of fabrics if you're looking for something specific. In a way it's a good excuse for a real browse, but it's a pain if you're in a hurry.

Before you log off, pop to the remnants department for reduced-price end-of-bolt pieces and fat quarters from old collections. And have a peep in the notions section, where you'll find all manner of useful bits and bobs: wooden bag handles, patterned buttons and pretty lace trims. This shop is a crafter's paradise.
