Meghan Markle has demonstrated her Bake Off-worthy skills after sending a homemade treat to a non-profit charity to mark Women's History Month.
The Duchess of Sussex whipped up an olive oil sponge concocted with lemons freshly picked from her own Californian garden, which was then shipped to an outpost of World Central Kitchen.
The WCK provides meals to those in need, typically in the wake of natural disasters, and has been delivering food to front-line workers in the US in recent months. Prince Harry and Meghan's own non-profit, Archewell Foundation, teamed up with the NGO in 2020 to establish four community relief centres.
The duchess's home-baked treat was delivered to Chicago, where it was shared by World Central Kitchen volunteers.
"In honour of Women's History Month, WCK worked with Archewell, the non-profit created by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, to provide meals and share a message of appreciation and support in Chicago," the charity's Instagram post revealed, alongside a photo of women posing alongside the cake.
"Dessert was a lemon olive oil cake baked by the Duchess – with lemons from her garden!"
The treat, which was displayed on a metal cake stand, was decorated with lemon slices and sprinkled with icing sugar.
"Dorri of the YWCA Metropolitan Chicago – which has distributed 60,000 meals with WCK – and Sarah, co-owner of The Fat Shallot restaurant, shared a safely distanced lunch with women picking up meals," the WCK added.
"Women are on the front lines of our work: making and serving meals, volunteering, and leading businesses and organisations that serve their communities each day."
The cake was also accompanied by a note from Prince Harry and Meghan, the non-profit added.
"We hope you enjoy the offering we baked for you — a small token of thanks, from our home to yours," the Duke and Duchess of Sussex wrote. "Our hope with this effort is to show that, when we all participate, even the smallest actions can have a ripple effect," the letter continued. "Even individual actions can impact the whole of us."
According to The Fat Shallot restaurant's official Twitter account, who replied to a comment saying "I bet Meghan's olive oil cake was good", the homemade treat was "delicious".
Since its launch, the WCK has provided meals in the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Zambia, Peru, Cuba, Uganda, the Bahamas, Cambodia and the United States. Last August, the non-profit was on the ground in Beirut, following the devastating port explosion.
