On August 15, India celebrates its 74th Independence Day. To mark the occasion, which commemorates the nation's independence from the UK in 1947, a number of Dubai restaurants have launched special deals and menus.
If you’re thinking of celebrating the day with a culinary journey, here are some offers to get you in the festive spirit.
Vego Cafe & Confectionery
The vegetarian cafe in Mankhool has launched a limited-edition tricolour Independence Day cake, featuring fresh fruit and vanilla cream in between layers of sponge. The cakes are eggless, and you pay by the size, with one-kilogram (for Dh100) or 500-gram (Dh75) options available. It is recommended that you pre-order 24 to 48 hours in advance. The tricolour treat is available until Sunday, August 16 and orders can be placed by calling 04 399 2230.
Desi Junction
If you can't get enough of the biryani, one of India's most popular dishes, then head over to Desi Junction, an Indian restaurant that opened earlier this year in Al Karama.
The venue is paying tribute to the country's diversity with a biryani menu, with six non-vegetarian and vegetarian options. Diners can choose between options such as lagan ki murgh biryani (basmati rice cooked with marinated chicken on a dum, flavoured with saffron) and matka mutton dum biryani (basmati rice and marinated mutton cooked in a clay pot).
Available on Friday and Saturday, August 14 and 15, 1kg of any of the biryanis costs Dh79.
Shamiana, Taj Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Dubai
The international outpost of the famous Mumbai restaurant, located in Taj Jumeirah Lakes Towers, is serving a three-course menu this Independence Day, with vegetarian and non-vegetarian options available. Some of the dishes on the menu include mulligatawny chicken soup, paneer and chowki mutter tikka, tandoori lamb chops and zaffrani salmon, all served with freshly baked Indian breads. For dessert, guests can savour a trio of Shamiana's signature desserts including gajar ka halwa and ras malai.
The menu is available for lunch and dinner on Saturday, August 15 (from 12pm and 6.30pm, respectively). Prices start at Dh195 per person for the soft drinks package. For reservations, call 04 574 1111 or email reservations.jltdubai@tajhotels.com
Bombay Brasserie, Taj Dubai
The signature restaurant in Taj Dubai is inviting guests to celebrate the occasion with a three-course menu.
With non-vegetarian and vegetarian options available, some of the dishes include lamb barra kebab and achaari paneer from the Rajputana region. Mains from Hyderabad and Punjab include kache gosht ki biryani and sarson ka saag, with makki roti. For dessert, guests can enjoy an assorted mishti platter, showcasing classic Bengali desserts.
The menu is available on Saturday, August 15, for dinner only (6pm onwards) and is priced at Dh225 per person. Reservations can be made by calling 04 438 3222 or emailing fbreservations.dubai@tajhotels.com.

Tearful appearance
Chancellor Rachel Reeves set markets on edge as she appeared visibly distraught in parliament on Wednesday.
Legislative setbacks for the government have blown a new hole in the budgetary calculations at a time when the deficit is stubbornly large and the economy is struggling to grow.
She appeared with Keir Starmer on Thursday and the pair embraced, but he had failed to give her his backing as she cried a day earlier.
A spokesman said her upset demeanour was due to a personal matter.
