Viral desserts to try in the UAE, from Fix chocolate bars to flat croissants

It's been a few weeks since the chunky pistachio-filled chocolate bar in Dubai took social media by storm – sampled by foodies from the US to the Philippines.

Can’t Get Knafeh of It, by Fix Dessert Chocolatier, is made of shredded filo pastry and pistachio cream encased in milk chocolate. The company, founded by British-Egyptian entrepreneur Sarah Hamouda, is known for creating chocolate bars with Middle Eastern twists. Other flavours include karak and Lotus Biscoff.

One of the earliest TikTok videos showing the kunafa-inspired chocolate bar currently has more than 69 million views. While many content creators from around the world managed to get their hands on the dessert, those who couldn't often made their own.

The chocolate bars sell for Dh68.25. Available to order on Deliveroo only in Dubai, they are almost always sold out. If you want to satisfy a sweet tooth craving but can't get a hold of the viral chocolate bar, here are other desserts in the UAE to check out.

Fried ice cream

Here's one for ice cream lovers – especially as the UAE experiences sweltering heat and humidity this summer. Frozmo's fried ice cream looks like a chicken drumstick at first glance, but biting into it reveals chocolate or vanilla fillings. The outer coat is made of crunchy cornflakes. You can also order sauces, such as Nutella and pistachio to complement it.

A sharing-size pack includes three drumsticks and two sauces at Dh69, but bigger batches are available too. Those in Dubai can order every Friday and Sunday, while those in Abu Dhabi can order every Wednesday.

If you don't mind a playful take on the classic croissant, head to Brix Cafe to try the flat versions of the flaky pastry. The Dubai venue didn't invent flat croissants though. The trend is believed to have originated in South Korea, but since being viral on social media earlier this year, a host of cafes and bakeries around the world have followed suit.

Flat croissants are crispy, flaky and buttery and are often served dipped in frosting and other toppings. At Brix Cafe, diners can enjoy a milk chocolate version, as well as dark and white chocolate variations. They are sold at Dh28 a pop.

Crackle coffee

Another viral creation, this time a beverage, has made its way to coffee shops in the UAE. The Instagram-worthy creation features a coffee-based drink encased in a chocolate shell. Its moniker comes from the satisfying crack when squeezing the cup and breaking the shell.

A host of cafes in the UAE serve this, including Kawfee in Sharjah, Logout in Dubai and Together in Abu Dhabi.
