H&M's designer collaborations make creations by high-end brands affordable for the average high-street shopper. The latest partnership is with The Vampire's Wife, a vampy indie brand that has been worn by the likes of the Duchess of Cambridge and Princess Beatrice, as well as Cate Blanchett, Kate Moss and Ruth Negga.
The new range will be available in the UAE from October 22 and will cost from Dh59 ($16).
The Vampire's Wife is the creative vision of British designer and model Susie Cave, wife of Australian singer Nick Cave. The name of the brand was taken from an abandoned book project from the singer.
"It was a great honour to be asked to be the designer and the creative director of The Vampire's Wife's collaboration with H&M," Cave said. "H&M went to extraordinary lengths to bring the dark and sensual world of The Vampire's Wife to life. I hope this collection gives as much joy to those who wear it, as it did for me to create it."
And dark and sensual it certainly is. The collection has an almost exclusively black colour scheme, with flashes of white and grey added to the shadowy palette.
In a statement, H&M said that "the collection is progressive in both attitude and fabrication; garments are made from sustainably sourced materials".
The pieces are perfect for the coming months, with designs that heavily feature shimmering black lace, luxurious velvets, statement collars, high necklines and floating, flattering silhouettes. If the end of 2020 does have any Christmas, New Year's Eve or end-of-year parties to look forward to (maybe over Zoom), you can expect to see plenty of guests in a The Vampire's Wife x H&M design.
"With this collaboration, H&M and The Vampire's Wife want to show our customers that fashion can, and should, empower and inspire women to feel like the best version of themselves," said Maria Ostblom, head of womenswear design at H&M. "We've long been inspired by Susie's energy and brand values and we're thrilled to be doing this undoubtedly very special collection together."
The collection features dresses, capes and T-shirts, as well as accessories, including lace gloves, necklaces, rings, sunglasses and handbags. Prices also start at Dh59, H&M confirmed to The National. Prices also start low for the diffusion line in Europe, starting at €20 ($24) for dresses and €10 for jewellery pieces.
To buy a piece of The Vampire's Wife's designer collection will set you back about $2,500 for an evening dress, $140 for a T-shirt and $3,000 for gold charms, which can be used as pendants or to decorate a bracelet.
True to the brand, the H&M campaign imagery features muse Samantha Snow, model Eva Apio and British poet Greta Bellamacina.

What is the FNC?
The Federal National Council is one of five federal authorities established by the UAE constitution. It held its first session on December 2, 1972, a year to the day after Federation.
It has 40 members, eight of whom are women. The members represent the UAE population through each of the emirates. Abu Dhabi and Dubai have eight members each, Sharjah and Ras al Khaimah six, and Ajman, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain have four.
They bring Emirati issues to the council for debate and put those concerns to ministers summoned for questioning.
The FNC’s main functions include passing, amending or rejecting federal draft laws, discussing international treaties and agreements, and offering recommendations on general subjects raised during sessions.
Federal draft laws must first pass through the FNC for recommendations when members can amend the laws to suit the needs of citizens. The draft laws are then forwarded to the Cabinet for consideration and approval.
Since 2006, half of the members have been elected by UAE citizens to serve four-year terms and the other half are appointed by the Ruler’s Courts of the seven emirates.
In the 2015 elections, 78 of the 252 candidates were women. Women also represented 48 per cent of all voters and 67 per cent of the voters were under the age of 40.

The Al Burda Festival is a celebration of Islamic art and culture, featuring talks, performances and exhibitions. Organised by the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development, this one-day event opens with a session on the future of Islamic art. With this in mind, it is followed by a number of workshops and “masterclass” sessions in everything from calligraphy and typography to geometry and the origins of Islamic design. There will also be discussions on subjects including ‘Who is the Audience for Islamic Art?’ and ‘New Markets for Islamic Design.’ A live performance from Kuwaiti guitarist Yousif Yaseen should be one of the highlights of the day.
