A second-hand thrift shop is set to open on Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah this month.
UAE-founded charity Gulf for Good will be opening a permanent home for its Thrift for Good social enterprise, which aims to reduce waste while also raising money for good causes by reselling donated items.
The shop will open in the Golden Mile Galleria 2 mall on the Palm over the weekend of Friday and Saturday, November 13 and 14. Across the weekend, it will be holding upcycling and craft workshops, as well as raffles and a fashion show, while a DJ will be on hand with the tunes.
The shop will stock high-street and designer second-hand clothing, which will be sold for as little as Dh10. Until now, Thrift for Good has sold items via its website and through pop-ups around the emirate, including bazaars and flea markets.
Gulf for Good is a non-profit organisation, which raises funds for children’s charity projects around the world through adventure challenges. It was founded by Jen Sault in 2003, initially as a way to raise funds to build and sustain a daycare facility with the International Association for Transformation Philippines.
The charity says it is committed to zero waste.
“We rehome everything (including repairing / upcycling items), we offset our carbon emissions through TreeNation, and we use sustainable packaging. We believe every step can and should give back as we raise as much as we can [for] children's projects,” it says.
