Nike Air Max 1 'grass' golf shoe: Above par or looking rough?

These days, golf isn't just about having a swing that looks good — players want to dress the part as well.

But while it's all well and good strutting down the fairway as if it's a catwalk, do you really want to be wearing part of the course on your feet?

For that could soon be an option to golfers who think they can leave their playing partners green with envy if they slip on Nike's new choice of footwear.

The Air Max 1 makeover

The Air Max 1 has been a timeless classic for the sportswear giant and, according to reports, it is set to be given a golfing makeover, including one style that features an artificial grass outsole.

A release date hasn't been confirmed yet, while a price of about $140 (Dh515) is expected.

The bizarre design poses a few questions, including: How do you clean them after a round in moist conditions or having played multiple shots out of the bunkers with sand spraying everywhere?

Pushing boundaries

Nike has often attempted to push the barriers of sports fashion. Its football boots resemble a Nasa space project, and it is reasonable to think that the grass-style could well be utilised in the football market in future.

With the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship under way, we'll keep an eye on the greens to see if any of the star names, such as Tommy Fleetwood, are sporting an early handout.

And, if you do end up buying a pair yourself, just make sure you don't take them off while out on the course — you'll do well to find them again.
