Lebanese designer Nicolas Jebran dresses Cardi B for music video: 'Among the wreckage lies colours of hope'

It is not the picture that he would have chosen to celebrate his latest celebrity clients. Following the appearance of two of his designs in a new A-list music video, Lebanese designer Nicolas Jebran marked the occasion by sharing a bittersweet post showing the sketches of the pieces in his destroyed Beirut atelier. "Today, we were supposed to be excited. To celebrate a project in which we defied Covid-19 to achieve. However, our country is mourning and our faces can't even smile," the designer wrote. A sketch of matching yellow and pink one-pieces, with lavish feather trims, accompanied the poignant post, lying amid broken glass and debris. The designs are sported by rappers Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion in the video for WAP , which was released on Friday, August 7. Despite the destruction caused by the explosion at Beirut's port on Tuesday, August 4, which has left more than 150 dead, Jebran shared a resilient message of positivity. "Among the wreckage, the broken glass and shattered offices lie the glowing colours of hope," he wrote. "For better tomorrows, we pray, we hope, we aspire." Jebran, who established his eponymous label in 2000, has also dressed Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez and Katy Perry. A number of the Lebanese capital's designers had their ateliers damaged by the blast, which has also left thousands injured or homeless. Couturier Zuhair Murad's office and atelier on Charles Helou Avenue have both been left in ruins, while the buildings of designers Roni Helou, Rabih Kayrouz, Sandra Mansour and Azzi & Osta were also destroyed by the explosion. Showing his obliterated office on Instagram, Murad wrote: "My heart is broken. Can't stop crying. The efforts of years went in a moment." Among the stars who replied to the couturier was Lopez, who has worn Murad's designs on several occasions. "OMG ... this is heartbreaking ... I am so sorry ... this is awful ... thank God you are safe ... sending you love and strength during this time," wrote the actress and singer.
