A white Christmas is a much-wanted weather phenomenon the world over, but it seems entirely out-of-reach in the UAE, but that doesn't mean that winter sports are totally off limits.
This December you can defy the elements and go ice skating by the beach at Jumeirah Beach Residence. An ice skating rink will be set up in JBR for the first time ever, meaning you can get your skate on wihle taking in views across to Ain Dubai, Dubai Marina and Bluewaters Island. The rink will be completely free for all visitors to enjoy.
A giant igloo with a winter forest backdrop will be set up to house the rink from Thursday, 5 December. As a synthetic ice rink, it is more environmentally friendly than conventional ice rinks.
The #WowJBR series of wintry events will also include a cast of familiar festive characters, putting on shows up and down the streets near JBR, including a breakdancing Santa and his little helpers, The Grinch, nutcrackers and The Sticky Bandits, the mischievous duo from the Home Alone movies.
There will also be arcade games to win prizes at and puzzles to beat scattered along The Walk.
The festivities will kick off from 6.30pm on Thursday, December 5 and will run every weekend until Friday, December 27. All activities on The Walk, JBR, are free of charge and suitable for all ages.

Real estate tokenisation project
Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.
The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.
Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.

Garlicky shrimp in olive oil
Gambas Al Ajillo
Preparation time: 5 to 10 minutes
Cooking time: 5 minutes
Serves 4
Ingredients
180ml extra virgin olive oil; 4 to 5 large cloves of garlic, minced or pureed (or 3 to 4 garlic scapes, roughly chopped); 1 or 2 small hot red chillies, dried (or ¼ teaspoon dried red chilli flakes); 400g raw prawns, deveined, heads removed and tails left intact; a generous splash of sweet chilli vinegar; sea salt flakes for seasoning; a small handful of fresh flat-leaf parsley, roughly chopped
Method
▶ Heat the oil in a terracotta dish or frying pan. Once the oil is sizzling hot, add the garlic and chilli, stirring continuously for about 10 seconds until golden and aromatic.
▶ Add a splash of sweet chilli vinegar and as it vigorously simmers, releasing perfumed aromas, add the prawns and cook, stirring a few times.
▶ Once the prawns turn pink, after 1 or 2 minutes of cooking, remove from the heat and season with sea salt flakes.
▶ Once the prawns are cool enough to eat, scatter with parsley and serve with small forks or toothpicks as the perfect sharing starter. Finish off with crusty bread to soak up all that flavour-infused olive oil.
