Sharjah opens two new parks, including one for women only

Two new parks have opened in Sharjah’s Al Rahmaniyah neighbourhood, including one for women only.

The adjoining Kshisha and Shaghrafa parks are managed by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) and feature social, entertainment, sports and educational facilities over a combined area of 147,700 square metres.

Kshisha Park is dedicated to families, featuring football and volleyball courts, a library, amphitheatre, fitness hub, jogging and cycling tracks, playgrounds, skateboarding areas and halls designed to host workshops.

There’s also an artificial pond with a duck feeding station.

Visitors to the park can pre-book the football field for Dh250 per hour or Dh450 for two hours at specific time slots. The volleyball court can be booked for Dh150 per hour and Dh250 for two hours.

Nearby Shaghrafa Park is for women only and has halls for workshops, as well as children’s play areas, a theatre, jogging track, gym, and basketball and volleyball courts, to which visitors will enjoy free access.

People can take their own food to either park, although on-site barbecues are banned at both. Shurooq is working on adding designated barbecue spots, however.

"Shurooq is keen on providing fun-filled activities for families in a safe environment that adheres to the preventative measures and protocols mandated by the UAE health authorities to curb the spread of Covid-19,” said Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer, Shurooq’s chief operating officer.

"Dedicated teams are on site to guide and assist guests, and ensure their visits are enjoyable and memorable.”

Sharjah parks reopened to the public in June 2020 after a temporary closure because of the coronavirus pandemic. Restrictions include the mandatory wearing of face masks, maintaining a distance of two metres between individuals and limited numbers of people in groups.

The new park facilities are open from Sunday to Wednesday, 9am to 10pm, and Thursday to Saturday, 9am to 11pm. During public holidays and Ramadan, opening hours will be from noon to 11pm.

Jogging tracks are open 24 hours a day throughout the week.
