Over the past couple of months, front line workers have become real-life heroes, working tirelessly in the fight against Covid-19 around the world.
And now Mattel, the company behind Barbie, is set to reflect the world’s mood by swapping superhero dolls for a range of everyday hero toys, including a doctor, nurse, delivery driver and grocery store worker.
The #ThankYouHeroes collection includes 16 different action figures aimed at helping children learn about emergency response jobs, as well as raising vital funds for first responders through #FirstRespondersFirst, an initiative of Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Thrive Global, and the CAA Foundation, which helps to provide personal protective equipment, accommodation, child care, food, mental health support, and other resources to healthcare workers in the US.
The figures will be available for purchase throughout the month of May, retailing at $20 (Dh73), with $15 going to #FirstRespondersFirst. “‘#ThankYouHeroes is designed to immortalise and honour healthcare and everyday heroes, and to drive additional donations to support first responders,” said Chuck Scothon, senior vice president of Fisher-Price and global head of infant and preschool, Mattel.

Why your domicile status is important
Your UK residence status is assessed using the statutory residence test. While your residence status – ie where you live - is assessed every year, your domicile status is assessed over your lifetime.
Your domicile of origin generally comes from your parents and if your parents were not married, then it is decided by your father. Your domicile is generally the country your father considered his permanent home when you were born.
UK residents who have their permanent home ("domicile") outside the UK may not have to pay UK tax on foreign income. For example, they do not pay tax on foreign income or gains if they are less than £2,000 in the tax year and do not transfer that gain to a UK bank account.
A UK-domiciled person, however, is liable for UK tax on their worldwide income and gains when they are resident in the UK.
