Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in Pakistan: royals set to see the 'dynamic, aspirational and forward-looking nation'

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are preparing to embark upon their official tour of Pakistan. The visit will take place between Monday, October 14 and Friday, October 18. It will be the couple's first official visit to the country. Kensington Palace has described the visit as "the most complex tour undertaken by The Duke and Duchess to date", but have said that the couple wants to "learn more about the challenges and opportunities [in Pakistan], both of the past and today." "As with previous overseas visits, The Duke and Duchess have asked that this tour allow them opportunities to meet as many Pakistanis as possible," Kensington Palace stressed. "Over the course of the visit, Their Royal Highnesses will meet a wide variety of people, including children and young people, leaders from government, business and the charity sector, inspiring conservationists, and well-known cultural figures and sporting stars." Their schedule in the country "will pay respect to the historical relationship between Britain and Pakistan, it will largely focus on showcasing Pakistan as it is today – a dynamic, aspirational and forward-looking nation." It has been announced that their visit will span over 1,000 kilometres, ranging from the capital, Islamabad, stopping off in Lahore and the western border regions, with a visit to the countryside in the north of the country. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge "will visit programmes which empower young people, and organisations that help ensure they have the best possible start in life. "Access to quality education, particularly to girls and young women is one of the UK’s top priorities in Pakistan. The Duke and Duchess are looking forward to spending time meeting young Pakistanis, and hearing more about their aspirations for the future." The visit will see the couple visit communities affected by climate change, and they are also expected to "spend time understanding the complex security picture in Pakistan."
