Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid has officially joined one of the year's most popular social media platforms: TikTok.

According to Wam, the Vice President and Ruler of Dubai plans to use the video-sharing app to connect with his millions of followers around the world.

He will share short clips of his 50-year journey in public service, "providing insights in leadership and management to inspire youth to create positive change in society", the news agency added.

"I officially joined TikTok, the fastest growing platform with more than 800 million users. We want to be where people are. We want to create positive Arabic content and we want to listen to young people and share our stories with them," Sheikh Mohammed wrote on Twitter.

His handle on the app is @hhshkmohd, and he has already shared his first video:

Despite only launching on Saturday, the ruler's video already has more than 93,000 likes.

The Chinese social media platform is especially popular with Gen Z, and is famous for igniting viral dance and food challenges around the world.

The launch of Sheikh Mohammed's official TikTok account stems from the Dubai leader's keenness to connect with younger followers, according to Wam.

The royal is already among the most-followed world leaders on social media, with more than 22.6 million followers across his combined platforms. He has approximately 10.4 million followers on Twitter, 5.4 million on Instagram, 3.8 million on Facebook and 2.4 million on LinkedIn.

Earlier this month, Twitter shared its round-up of the biggest trends, searches and hashtags, and the most-followed accounts in the UAE.

It was found that the engagement on the platform by Sheikh Mohammed has been among the most popular in the Emirates this year.

Sheikh Mohammed’s most popular tweet is also one of his most poignant: a sharing of prayers and condolences with the people of Lebanon following the Beirut explosion on August 4.

Should late investors consider cryptocurrencies?

Wealth managers recommend late investors to have a balanced portfolio that typically includes traditional assets such as cash, government and corporate bonds, equities, commodities and commercial property.

They do not usually recommend investing in Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies due to the risk and volatility associated with them.

“It has produced eye-watering returns for some, whereas others have lost substantially as this has all depended purely on timing and when the buy-in was. If someone still has about 20 to 25 years until retirement, there isn’t any need to take such risks,” Rupert Connor of Abacus Financial Consultant says.

He adds that if a person is interested in owning a business or growing a property portfolio to increase their retirement income, this can be encouraged provided they keep in mind the overall risk profile of these assets.
