The Tony Awards marked the debut of Cate's new hairdo. Gone were the wavy, shoulder-length locks. In their place, a shorter, pixie bob. All the better for showing off those famous cheekbones, which have been polished up like pink apples. Otherwise, we have a light dusting of shimmery eye-shadow and several licks of mascara. Fresh and youthful, but not desperately so.
Cate is wearing a futuristic suit from the Armani Privé Spring 2010 collection. Now, the cut of the silver jacket we like very much. Built-up shoulders? Tick. Tailored waist? Tick. But together with the trousers, there's simply too much mirrored reflection going on. If feeling unkind, one might almost say that she looks like a giant metal filing. Or an eel. Or perhaps a replicant from the Ridley Scott movie Bladerunner.
A Roger Vivier clutch is fine, but, most obviously, that Van Cleef & Arpels Zip Pompon necklace, which is studded with more than 450 diamonds. One presumes she climbed into her space suit and decided she needed something even more dazzling to go with it. Hold on to your corneas, everyone. How brightly shines the movie star.
Also silver, in case she hadn't quite driven that space-age point home. Perhaps they'll carry her to a galaxy far, far away. One can but hope.

The flights
