George and Amal Clooney have donated $100,000 (Dh367,000) to three charities in support of those affected by the devastating blast in Beirut.

"We're both deeply concerned for the people of Beirut and the devastation they've faced in the last few days," the couple said in a statement to People.

"Three charitable organisations we've found are providing essential relief on the ground: the Lebanese Red Cross, Impact Lebanon, and Baytna Baytak."

At least 154 people were killed and thousands more injured in the explosions, which also caused an estimated $15 billion (Dh55.1bn) in damages.

The country has declared a state of emergency.

Amal is a Lebanese-British human rights barrister, and was born in Beirut.

Her family left Lebanon for England when she was two years old due to the Lebanese Civil War.

Over the last few days, celebrities have taking to social media to show support for the victims with some asking their followers to make donations towards rescue and recovery efforts in the country.

Harry Styles tweeted that he was "heartbroken" by Tuesday’s tragedy in Lebanon.

"Thinking of all those affected and sending love to everyone in Beirut," he said, asking his followers to donate if they could.

"My heart, strength and condolences are with Lebanon and everyone affected by this tragedy," Ariana Grande tweeted Tuesday, directing followers to support two disaster relief organisations.

Mohamed Hadid wrote: "I cry for you. My brothers and sisters may God bless you and heal you. There is not enough tears to ease your pain."

Model Naomi Campbell shared a photo of the city, writing: "My thoughts, prayers and love go out to the people of Lebanon and their families."

DJ Khaled asked for people to "pray for Lebanon" in an Instagram post:

Moral education needed in a 'rapidly changing world'

Moral education lessons for young people is needed in a rapidly changing world, the head of the programme said.

Alanood Al Kaabi, head of programmes at the Education Affairs Office of the Crown Price Court - Abu Dhabi, said: "The Crown Price Court is fully behind this initiative and have already seen the curriculum succeed in empowering young people and providing them with the necessary tools to succeed in building the future of the nation at all levels.

"Moral education touches on every aspect and subject that children engage in.

"It is not just limited to science or maths but it is involved in all subjects and it is helping children to adapt to integral moral practises.

"The moral education programme has been designed to develop children holistically in a world being rapidly transformed by technology and globalisation."
