Al Hamra Mall and Manar Mall in Ras Al Khaimah have reopened to the public as of Monday, June 1, and will operate from 10am to 10pm.

Retail and dining outlets are open, while the gym, cinemas, public sitting areas, changing rooms, prayer rooms and leisure and entertainment facilities will remain closed for now.

A number of measures have been put in place to ensure shoppers' safety during the pandemic.

Shoppers have to wear gloves and a face mask at all times, while maintaining a physical distance of 2.5 metres from other people. Visitors under the age of 12 and over 60 are not permitted.

Thermal scanners have been installed at the entrance of the malls and anyone with a temperature above 38°C will not be allowed to enter.

Car parking has also been reduced by 50 per cent to ensure social distancing, and valet parking and car washing services will not be available.

“We have worked closely with our tenants to ensure that they provide our customers with a safe and comfortable shopping and dining experience,” says Benoy Kurien, group chief executive of Al Hamra.

“The safety of our customers, partners and employees is our utmost priority and we will continue to support and adhere to the guidelines issued by the authorities at all times.”

The news follows last week's announcement that public beaches in Ras Al Khaimah could reopen from Thursday.

Beauty salons and barbershops in the emirate will also resume operations with strict safety measures in place to protect customers from the pandemic.

Tearful appearance

Chancellor Rachel Reeves set markets on edge as she appeared visibly distraught in parliament on Wednesday.

Legislative setbacks for the government have blown a new hole in the budgetary calculations at a time when the deficit is stubbornly large and the economy is struggling to grow.

She appeared with Keir Starmer on Thursday and the pair embraced, but he had failed to give her his backing as she cried a day earlier.

A spokesman said her upset demeanour was due to a personal matter.
