Adidas has teamed up with Mohamed Salah to create a limited-edition version of its Ultraboost trainers.
Designed in collaboration with the Liverpool player, the Mo Salah Ultraboost DNA 2.0 running shoes now feature hieroglyphic designs around the sole, in a nod to Salah’s Egyptian roots, with his name appearing in gold along the side of the shoes. The trainer’s upper tongue is branded with a crown, a reference to him having been dubbed “the Egyptian king” by Liverpool supporters.
The latest addition to the Ultraboost line-up promises “supreme energy return” and is designed with sustainability in mind. The shoes include a Continental natural rubber outsole and an upper made with yarn containing 50 per cent Parley Ocean Plastic, plastic waste removed from remote islands, beaches, coastal communities and shorelines. The other 50 per cent of the yarn is made from recycled polyester. A snug, sock-like fit is coupled with a lace closer, a moulded heel counter and adidas’s Torsion System.
The shoes are retailing for Dh849 and are available now in stores, online and via the adidas app.
The sportswear brand has previously partnered with Salah on a pair of football boots, the X Speedflow Mo Salah.1 Firm Ground Boots. Only 1,069 pairs were made, each marked with a serial number on the heel, below the Salah logo. The boots feature a red Primeknit skin that is light and supportive, with a gold, leopard print pattern inspired by the “battle pack”, the official footwear designed by adidas for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Why the Tourist Club?
Originally, The Club (which many people chose to call the “British Club”) was the only place where one could use the beach with changing rooms and a shower, and get refreshments.
In the early 1970s, the Government of Abu Dhabi wanted to give more people a place to get together on the beach, with some facilities for children. The place chosen was where the annual boat race was held, which Sheikh Zayed always attended and which brought crowds of locals and expatriates to the stretch of beach to the left of Le Méridien and the Marina.
It started with a round two-storey building, erected in about two weeks by Orient Contracting for Sheikh Zayed to use at one these races. Soon many facilities were planned and built, and members were invited to join.
Why it was called “Nadi Al Siyahi” is beyond me. But it is likely that one wanted to convey the idea that this was open to all comers. Because there was no danger of encountering alcohol on the premises, unlike at The Club, it was a place in particular for the many Arab expatriate civil servants to join. Initially the fees were very low and membership was offered free to many people, too.
Eventually there was a skating rink, bowling and many other amusements.

What sanctions would be reimposed?
Under ‘snapback’, measures imposed on Iran by the UN Security Council in six resolutions would be restored, including:
- An arms embargo
- A ban on uranium enrichment and reprocessing
- A ban on launches and other activities with ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons, as well as ballistic missile technology transfer and technical assistance
- A targeted global asset freeze and travel ban on Iranian individuals and entities
- Authorisation for countries to inspect Iran Air Cargo and Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines cargoes for banned goods

- The UAE government announced a retirement savings plan for private and free zone sector employees in 2023.
- Dubai’s savings retirement scheme for foreign employees working in the emirate’s government and public sector came into effect in 2022.
- National Bonds unveiled a Golden Pension Scheme in 2022 to help private-sector foreign employees with their financial planning.
- In April 2021, Hayah Insurance unveiled a workplace savings plan to help UAE employees save for their retirement.
- Lunate, an Abu Dhabi-based investment manager, has launched a fund that will allow UAE private companies to offer employees investment returns on end-of-service benefits.
