The UAE's President Sheikh Mohamed congratulated Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on becoming the kingdom's prime minister as part of a Cabinet reshuffle following a royal decree by Saudi Arabia’s King Salman.
"Sincere congratulations to my brother Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on his appointment as Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and to Prince Khalid bin Salman on becoming Defence Minister," he said.
"We wish them every success in their new roles."
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, UAE Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, also congratulated Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
"We congratulate the brotherly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the people and the government, on Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud becoming the head of the council of ministers," Sheikh Mohammed wrote on Twitter.
Other Gulf states, including Qatar and Bahrain, also congratulated the newly appointed premier for his new role.
Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa "expressed heartfelt congratulations to the Saudi Crown Prince on the royal trust, wishing him every success in serving the kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its people," Bahrain's state news agency reported.
As part of the reshuffle, Prince Khalid bin Salman, who had been serving as deputy defence minister, will be the kingdom’s new defence minister. He will take over from the crown prince following the royal decree, which was reported by the official SPA news agency.
The Cabinet reshuffle also involved the appointment of Yousef Al Bunyan as Minister of Education, replacing Hamad Al Sheikh, who had been in the post since 2018.
The new defence and education ministers were sworn in by the king, a video posted by SPA on Twitter showed.
Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman will remain as Energy Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan as Foreign Minister and Adel Al Jubeir as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
Interior Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud, Finance Minister Mohammed Al Jadaan and Investment Minister Khalid Al Falih have also kept their positions, as has Minister of Hajj and Umrah Tawfiq bin Fawzan.
Also keeping their ministerial positions are Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz as Minister of the National Guard, Walid Al Samaani as Minister of Justice, and Majid Al Qasabi as Minister of Commerce.
Since the appointment of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in 2017, the kingdom has undertaken a series of changes as the country seeks to reduce its reliance on oil revenue.

Heavily-sugared soft drinks slip through the tax net
Some popular drinks with high levels of sugar and caffeine have slipped through the fizz drink tax loophole, as they are not carbonated or classed as an energy drink.
Arizona Iced Tea with lemon is one of those beverages, with one 240 millilitre serving offering up 23 grams of sugar - about six teaspoons.
A 680ml can of Arizona Iced Tea costs just Dh6.
Most sports drinks sold in supermarkets were found to contain, on average, five teaspoons of sugar in a 500ml bottle.

Who is Enric Sala?
Enric Sala is an expert on marine conservation and is currently the National Geographic Society's Explorer-in-Residence. His love of the sea started with his childhood in Spain, inspired by the example of the legendary diver Jacques Cousteau. He has been a university professor of Oceanography in the US, as well as working at the Spanish National Council for Scientific Research and is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on Biodiversity and the Bio-Economy. He has dedicated his life to protecting life in the oceans. Enric describes himself as a flexitarian who only eats meat occasionally.
What is biodiversity?
According to the United Nations Environment Programme, all life on earth – including in its forests and oceans – forms a “rich tapestry of interconnecting and interdependent forces”. Biodiversity on earth today is the product of four billion years of evolution and consists of many millions of distinct biological species. The term ‘biodiversity’ is relatively new, popularised since the 1980s and coinciding with an understanding of the growing threats to the natural world including habitat loss, pollution and climate change. The loss of biodiversity itself is dangerous because it contributes to clean, consistent water flows, food security, protection from floods and storms and a stable climate. The natural world can be an ally in combating global climate change but to do so it must be protected. Nations are working to achieve this, including setting targets to be reached by 2020 for the protection of the natural state of 17 per cent of the land and 10 per cent of the oceans. However, these are well short of what is needed, according to experts, with half the land needed to be in a natural state to help avert disaster.
