Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has appointed Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani as Prime Minister, according to an emiri decree.
Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdul Aziz Al Thani submitted his resignation from the prime ministerial post to the Emir on Tuesday, the Qatar News Agency reported.
Sheikh Tamim issued a decree forming the next cabinet of ministers under Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed, who will also continue in his role as Foreign Minister.
Dr Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah will take on the role of Deputy Prime Minister, alongside his post as Minister of State for Defence Affairs.
Sheikh Tamim also named central bank governor Sheikh Bandar bin Mohamed bin Saud Al Thani as chairman of Qatar Investment Authority, his office said on Tuesday.
Who is Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman?
Sheikh Mohammed had been Qatar’s Minister of Foreign Affairs since January 2016. He was also appointed Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister in November 2017.
He has served as chairman of Qatar Investment Authority since 2018, chairman of Qatar Fund for Development since 2014 and member of Qatar’s Supreme Council for Economic Affairs and Investments.
Sheikh Mohammed began his career working as an economic researcher in the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in 2003. He later became the director of economic affairs from 2005 to 2009.
In 2009, he was appointed director of the Small and Medium Enterprises Support Project, as well as director of the Department of Public and Private Sectors Partnership at the Ministry of Business and Trade.
In the same year, he launched Enterprise Qatar, an organisation that provides technical and financial support for small and medium-sized businesses.
He served as the Secretary of the Personal Representative of Qatar’s Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani in 2010 as part of the Emiri Diwan. In the same year, he was appointed deputy chairman of the board of directors of Qatar Mining Company.
In 2013, Sheikh Mohammed was appointed Assistant Foreign Minister for International Co-operation Affairs.

Mia Man’s tips for fermentation
- Start with a simple recipe such as yogurt or sauerkraut
- Keep your hands and kitchen tools clean. Sanitize knives, cutting boards, tongs and storage jars with boiling water before you start.
- Mold is bad: the colour pink is a sign of mold. If yogurt turns pink as it ferments, you need to discard it and start again. For kraut, if you remove the top leaves and see any sign of mold, you should discard the batch.

Iftar programme at the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding
Established in 1998, the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding was created with a vision to teach residents about the traditions and customs of the UAE. Its motto is ‘open doors, open minds’. All year-round, visitors can sign up for a traditional Emirati breakfast, lunch or dinner meal, as well as a range of walking tours, including ones to sites such as the Jumeirah Mosque or Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood.
Every year during Ramadan, an iftar programme is rolled out. This allows guests to break their fast with the centre’s presenters, visit a nearby mosque and observe their guides while they pray. These events last for about two hours and are open to the public, or can be booked for a private event.
Until the end of Ramadan, the iftar events take place from 7pm until 9pm, from Saturday to Thursday. Advanced booking is required.

Pharaoh's curse
British aristocrat Lord Carnarvon, who funded the expedition to find the Tutankhamun tomb, died in a Cairo hotel four months after the crypt was opened.
He had been in poor health for many years after a car crash, and a mosquito bite made worse by a shaving cut led to blood poisoning and pneumonia.
Reports at the time said Lord Carnarvon suffered from “pain as the inflammation affected the nasal passages and eyes”.
Decades later, scientists contended he had died of aspergillosis after inhaling spores of the fungus aspergillus in the tomb, which can lie dormant for months. The fact several others who entered were also found dead withiin a short time led to the myth of the curse.
