The second T20 between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo, which was scheduled for Tuesday evening, has been pushed to Wednesday after India all-rounder Krunal Pandya tested positive for Covid-19.

Pandya featured in two of the three ODIs and in the opening T20, with the Indian cricket board announcing hours before the start of the second 20-over contest that "the entire contingent is undergoing RT-PCR tests today to ascertain any further outbreak in the squad".

The board also announced that "the medical teams have identified eight members as close contacts".

The Sri Lanka series had already been delayed by six days after the home board announced a revised schedule "on the basis of health advisory after the Sri Lankan contingent detected two Covid-19 positive cases."

All the matches are being held at the Premadasa Stadium, without any spectators because of health regulations. Reporters and photographers were barred from the first T20 on Sunday after a Sri Lanka board employee who was at the press box tested positive.

The media had already undergone tests to gain entry for Tuesday's game when it was called off less than four hours before the start.

Now, the final two T20s of the series will be played back-to-back on Wednesday and Thursday, unless more positive cases at detected.

India, in the country with a second-choice squad as the main team is in England preparing for the Test series, won the ODI series 2-1 and clinched the first T20 by 38 runs.

The positive test mean a nervous wait for India batsmen Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav as they were picked for the Test series against England and were slated to travel at the end of the Sri Lanka tour.
