DUBAI // Transport chiefs are to study the use of driverless cars with the aim of deploying them at Dubai Expo 2020.
The study will begin this year, said Mattar Al Tayer, head of the emirate’s Roads and Transport Authority.
It is one of a raft of measures being introduced by the authority to implement the innovation strategy directed by the President, Sheikh Khalifa.
The RTA will shortly begin the test run of an electric bus, powered by a battery that can be recharged up to 80 per cent in less than 30 minutes.
The bus will have a range of 200 kilometres and a top speed of 100kph.
Future projects also include extending the Red Line of the Dubai Metro to the site of Expo 2020, at a cost of about Dh6 billion, and studying the construction of the second and third phases of the Dubai Tram project.
