The Rental Disputes Centre, the judicial arm of the Dubai Land Department, resolved 8,713 disputes with a combined value of Dh2.53 billion ($688.8 million) in the first half of the year.
The centre managed to resolve the cases within a seven-day window on average, making it an international reference point for “speedy settlement”, it said on Monday.
“RDC is moving forward … according to contemporary foundations that elevate the mechanisms of addressing this type of contractual relations through a specialised judicial system that keeps pace with the development witnessed by the emirate,” said Abdulqader Mousa, director of the RDC.
“Rental disputes are resolved quickly and accurately, ensuring social and economic stability for all those involved.”
The UAE property market, which had softened amid the Covid-19 pandemic, has been recovering steadily on the back of supportive government measures, the coming Expo 2020 and growing demand for larger homes amid a rise in remote working.
Dubai's property market has registered an increase in deal activity over the past few months. House prices in the emirate rose at their fastest pace in seven years in the second quarter of 2021, according to a recent report from Knight Frank.
Industry stakeholders also expect the Dubai rental market to remain busy over the summer as people consider moving to better properties before the school year begins.
The DLD also announced a draft law in April that is set to keep rents unchanged for a three-year period. The proposal aims to ensure the fair valuation of property and also resolve disputes between renters and owners, according to the DLD.
The DRC resolved 61,555 primary rent cases from 2015 to the end of 2020, representing only 2 per cent of the 4.28 million Ejari contracts registered with the DLD during the period.
This underscores “the community's confidence in the laws and legislative system in the emirate”, the DLD said on Monday.
Iftar programme at the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding
Established in 1998, the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding was created with a vision to teach residents about the traditions and customs of the UAE. Its motto is ‘open doors, open minds’. All year-round, visitors can sign up for a traditional Emirati breakfast, lunch or dinner meal, as well as a range of walking tours, including ones to sites such as the Jumeirah Mosque or Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood.
Every year during Ramadan, an iftar programme is rolled out. This allows guests to break their fast with the centre’s presenters, visit a nearby mosque and observe their guides while they pray. These events last for about two hours and are open to the public, or can be booked for a private event.
Until the end of Ramadan, the iftar events take place from 7pm until 9pm, from Saturday to Thursday. Advanced booking is required.

What is Reform?
Reform is a right-wing, populist party led by Nigel Farage, a former MEP who won a seat in the House of Commons last year at his eighth attempt and a prominent figure in the campaign for the UK to leave the European Union.

What is graphene?
Graphene is a single layer of carbon atoms arranged like honeycomb.
It was discovered in 2004, when Russian-born Manchester scientists Andrei Geim and Kostya Novoselov were "playing about" with sticky tape and graphite - the material used as "lead" in pencils.
Placing the tape on the graphite and peeling it, they managed to rip off thin flakes of carbon. In the beginning they got flakes consisting of many layers of graphene. But as they repeated the process many times, the flakes got thinner.
By separating the graphite fragments repeatedly, they managed to create flakes that were just one atom thick. Their experiment had led to graphene being isolated for the very first time.
At the time, many believed it was impossible for such thin crystalline materials to be stable. But examined under a microscope, the material remained stable, and when tested was found to have incredible properties.
It is many times times stronger than steel, yet incredibly lightweight and flexible. It is electrically and thermally conductive but also transparent. The world's first 2D material, it is one million times thinner than the diameter of a single human hair.
But the 'sticky tape' method would not work on an industrial scale. Since then, scientists have been working on manufacturing graphene, to make use of its incredible properties.
In 2010, Geim and Novoselov were awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics. Their discovery meant physicists could study a new class of two-dimensional materials with unique properties.
Real estate tokenisation project
Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.
The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.
Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.
