Qatar's stock market rose to a three-week high after third-quarter results from the banking sector were better than expected.
Masraf Al Rayan, Qatar's second-largest Islamic lender, rose 0.8 per cent to 24.90 rials a share. Commercial Bank of Qatar rose 1.1 per cent to 127.50 rials.
Doha Bank gained 1.4 per cent to 62.70 rials.
Joe Kawkabani, the chief investment officer at Franklin Templeton, said he was "bullish" on Qatar's market and overweight across all the Middle East and North Africa funds at the international asset management firm.
The QE Index rose 0.4 per cent to 8,437.61, the highest since September 22.
Masraf Al Rayan, Ahli Bank, Commercial Bank of Qatar and Al Khaliji Bank are yet to release earnings results for the quarter.
Low volumes on the UAE markets will keep investors on the sidelines until liquidity improves, said Nabil Farhat, a partner at Al Fajer Securities in Abu Dhabi.
"Markets are in a coma as trading volumes deteriorate," he said.
The Dubai Financial Market General Index closed 0.7 per cent lower at 1,374.61 while the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange General Index closed 0.2 per cent lower at 2,471.41.
Elsewhere in the region, Kuwait's index rose 0.5 per cent to 5,898.60. Bahrain's measure was little changed at 1,150.87. Oman's measure rose 0.4 per cent to 5,538.31.
The Saudi Tadawul All-Share Index was down 0.4 per cent at 6,135.12.
