Siemens The industrial technology and engineering group sent its first representative to the Emirates in 1973 and delivered its first UAE project, a satellite station in Ras al Khaimah, in 1976. It has been deeply involved in the development of the country's infrastructure. Recently, it was the electrical and electronic systems contractor at Abu Dhabi's Yas Marina Circuit. Colexon Energy The developer of thin-film photovoltaic power plants has a strategic alliance with Masdar, the Abu Dhabi Government's clean energy company, to build factories to produce silicon-based photovoltaic modules. The first fabrication factory started operations last year in Germany. A second is planned for Abu Dhabi.
Deutsche Bahn Germany's state-owned railway company in March signed a memorandum of understanding with Abu Dhabi's Al Masaood Group to build and operate "ultra-modern" rail systems in the UAE. The deal could be worth ?10 billion (Dh45.09bn). E.On Germany's biggest utility is in a consortium with Masdar and Denmark's Dong Energy to develop the £2.5bn (Dh13.26bn) London Array offshore wind project in the UK. In January, it agreed to form a joint venture with Masdar to develop a variety of projects in the MENA region to reduce carbon emissions.
Ferrostaal The industrial group has been 70 per cent owned by Abu Dhabi's International Petroleum Investment Company since 2008. In the UAE, it recently installed a cable recycling plant in Ajman. Linde Group The technology firm is in a joint venture with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) to extract nitrogen from the air for use in boosting output from ageing oilfields. It is also involved in petrochemicals development in Abu Dhabi.
RWE Power The international utility in March signed a co-operation and information exchange agreement with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, especially targeting emerging energy issues such as renewable energy, carbon emissions and smart grids. Wintershall Germany's largest oil and gas producer, a subsidiary of the industrial conglomerate BASF, this week signed a preliminary agreement with ADNOC over developing an Abu Dhabi gasfield.
