Fancy living in a house that was once home to the poet Lady Lethbridge and the Victorian politician and author Sir Roper Lethbridge?
For a hefty £48 million (Dh282.3m) you too could be penning verses in No 20 Cornwall Terrace, a six-bedroom mansion overlooking London's Regents Park that forms part of the world's most expensive row of terraced houses.
Oakmayne Properties, the property developer currently marketing the 11,797 square feet, five-storey house designed by the Georgian architect John Nash and overseen by his protégé Decimus Burton, hopes that the address will attract the interest of some of the world's richest house-hunters.
The house was damaged in the London Blitz and used for many years as the offices of the property company British Land. Four-and-a-half years ago, Oakmayne bought the Regency block overlooking Regent's Park and set to work restoring its listed buildings to their former splendour.
A team of interior designers and historic-housing specialists spent 83,000 man hours working on each of the eight homes in the terrace, taking a year to dig by hand two metres beneath the original basement to create extra space.
Branded by the developer the "House of the Poet" because of Lady Lethbridge's contribution in collecting traditional children's rhymes and songs, which she then sent to the scholar and folk-song collector the Reverend Sabine Baring-Gould, Lethbridge House is a seven-bathroom mansion with a spa, gym, swimming pool and media room.
Lady Lethbridge's husband, Sir Roper, was the editor of the Calcutta Quarterly Review in the 1870s, a professor in the Bengal education department, press commissioner for the Indian government, author of several books about India and later the member of parliament for Kensington North.
The house includes an art collection featuring LS Lowry's The Barge (1938) and a floral depiction by the "Young British Artist" Marc Quinn, aged 48.
"Lethbridge House has been designed for a truly international high-net worth individual or family who know how to enjoy the very best of London's culture, shopping, entertainment and heritage," says Meriam Makiya, a partner at Knight Frank, the estate agent marketing the property.
