Etihad Cargo will now transfer horses and other similar species by air through its new “SkyStables” service.
The service will transport horses via 10 Airbus and Boeing wide-body freighters, according to Etihad. Etihad Cargo is scheduled to cover 44 destinations with personalised charter services available to other cities, the airline said.
“The animals are well looked after prior to, during and after the flight,” said Kevin Knight, Etihad Airways’ chief strategy and planning officer.
“Combined with a dedicated handling team and facilities at our Abu Dhabi hub, we (Etihad) also have approved export and import processes in place with local UAE customs and police, in addition to a full veterinary service at Abu Dhabi International Airport.”
Etihad said that throughout the flight horses will be attended by their grooms to arrive “fit and healthy” to their final destination.
The stalls will also have anti-slip floors for horses, which are then moved to temperature controlled sections of the plane.
