Dr Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State and Adnoc Group chief executive, was named as the most influential figure in oil and gas for the third year in a row by the Oil & Gas Middle East magazine.
Dr Al Jaber retained his rank "thanks to his tireless efforts to transform Adnoc and arguably, the wider oil and gas industry", state-run Wam news agency reported on Thursday.
Since he took over the helm at Adnoc in 2016, Dr Al Jaber has transformed the oil and gas company, striking high-profile deals with international partners and undertaking an integrated gas strategy to allow the UAE to reach gas self-sufficiency among other measures, the magazine said.
"Adnoc has also looked outside of its typical limits, pivoting to Asia as a growth opportunity and making a push to further grow its downstream portfolio," the magazine added.
Oil & Gas Middle East stated that in putting together its list the key focus is "impact".
"Our Power 50 are game-changing industry leaders, who push boundaries and influence the nature of the oil and gas sector. The world is changing and so must the energy industry."
Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, presented Dr Al Jaber with an award in February recognising his contribution to energy security, regional trade and his efforts towards modernising the oil and gas industry in the digital era.
During a ceremony at the Petrotech energy conference in Greater Noida, near New Delhi, Mr Modi congratulated Dr Al Jaber for "his vision for the future".
Dr Al Jaber has overseen a rapid and comprehensive transformation aimed at optimising resources and efficiency, strengthening overall performance and fostering a more commercial culture. He has also encouraged the development and adoption of new technologies including Big Data, the Internet of Things and blockchain to support this process.

How Filipinos in the UAE invest
A recent survey of 10,000 Filipino expatriates in the UAE found that 82 per cent have plans to invest, primarily in property. This is significantly higher than the 2014 poll showing only two out of 10 Filipinos planned to invest.
Fifty-five percent said they plan to invest in property, according to the poll conducted by the New Perspective Media Group, organiser of the Philippine Property and Investment Exhibition. Acquiring a franchised business or starting up a small business was preferred by 25 per cent and 15 per cent said they will invest in mutual funds. The rest said they are keen to invest in insurance (3 per cent) and gold (2 per cent).
Of the 5,500 respondents who preferred property as their primary investment, 54 per cent said they plan to make the purchase within the next year. Manila was the top location, preferred by 53 per cent.

Financial considerations before buying a property
Buyers should try to pay as much in cash as possible for a property, limiting the mortgage value to as little as they can afford. This means they not only pay less in interest but their monthly costs are also reduced. Ideally, the monthly mortgage payment should not exceed 20 per cent of the purchaser’s total household income, says Carol Glynn, founder of Conscious Finance Coaching.
“If it’s a rental property, plan for the property to have periods when it does not have a tenant. Ensure you have enough cash set aside to pay the mortgage and other costs during these periods, ideally at least six months,” she says.
Also, shop around for the best mortgage interest rate. Understand the terms and conditions, especially what happens after any introductory periods, Ms Glynn adds.

His life in brief: Born in a village near Galilee, he lived in exile for most of his life and started writing poetry after high school. He was arrested several times by Israel for what were deemed to be inciteful poems. Most of his work focused on the love and yearning for his homeland, and he was regarded the Palestinian poet of resistance. Over the course of his life, he published more than 30 poetry collections and books of prose, with his work translated into more than 20 languages. Many of his poems were set to music by Arab composers, most significantly Marcel Khalife. Darwish died on August 9, 2008 after undergoing heart surgery in the United States. He was later buried in Ramallah where a shrine was erected in his honour.
