Emirates is to operate one of its two scheduled daily flights into Vienna International Airport with its Airbus A380 aircraft from July 1.
The Dubai carrier said it will use its three-class configuration with 519 seats, and will retain its Boeing 777-300ER service with a capacity of 360.
Thierry Antinori, Emirates‘ executive vice president and chief commercial officer, said it has seen a gradual increase in demand from Austria, a route it started flying in May, 2004.
He added that the European city will feel the benefit of more passenger arrivals from Dubai.
“Austria, as a leader in the hospitality industry and Vienna as a world class city, are sure to benefit from a boost to tourism and job creation as well as experiencing a positive impact on the economy as they welcome more visitors from the Middle East, Asia and Africa,” he said.
Emirates said earlier this week that corporate demand has begun to be affected by low oil prices, which may lead it to reduce capacity on some routes.
President Tim Clark said that it was considering reducing the number of A380 aircraft operated to Houston because of the downturn in the oil industry – "its biggest corporate customer".
It has also put on hold plans to establish a hub in Panama as it awaits approvals from a number of countries for a wide-ranging codeshare deal with Panama City-based Copa Airlines.
