Emirates will not be grounding any of its superjumbos after yesterday's emergency landing by a Qantas jet because its planes have different engines.
The Dubai-based airline owns 13 Airbus A380s, making it the plane's biggest customer.
Qantas, which has never suffered a fatal crash, grounded its six-strong fleet of A380s after smoke was seen pouring from one of its plane's engines shortly after it took off from Singapore on its way to Sydney. Debris from the engine was found on the nearby Indonesian island of Batam. None of the 433 passengers and 26 crew on board was injured.
A spokesman for Emirates, which has another 77 A380s on order, said its flights would be "unaffected" because the airline uses different engines from Qantas.
He said: "All of our Emirates A380s are operating as scheduled. Emirates has 13 A380s in operation, powered by Engine Alliance GP7200 engines. The safety of our passengers and crew is always of paramount importance."
