The UAE family conglomerate Al Naboodah Group Enterprises (ANGE) has provided 750 new school buses as the new term kicks off across the country.
Partnering with operators such as Emirates Transport, Dubai Taxi Corporation, School Transport Services and other private schools, ANGE’s buses are transporting an estimated 400,000 children daily to and from school, the company said.
The new buses, which are distributed through Swaidan Trading, the commercial vehicle and heavy equipment business of ANGE, include Ashok Leyland Falcon and Sunwin vehicles. All have been tailored to the highest international safety standards of school transport services mandated by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology (ESMA), and the Department of Transport.
“Over the past 30 years, Al Naboodah Group Enterprises has been a trusted partner, providing government bodies with school buses that meet the highest safety and operational standards for UAE students," said Buti Al Naboodah, the deputy chief executive of commercial for ANGE. "Quality customer service and safety remain a priority, reinforcing the Group’s commitment to best practices across all areas of our business.”
Recently, Ashok Leyland, which is ranked as the world’s 5th largest bus manufacturer and boasting production facilities in the UAE, successfully launched the first roll-over compliant Oyster 33-seater school bus, meeting and exceeding safety requirements set by authorities.
"We go to great lengths in customising our school buses to meet safety standards while ensuring a superior level of comfort for students,” said Ajit Kumar, the chief operating officer for commercial, transport and electrical at ANGE.
With a range of seating options that can accommodate 25 to 83 students, the school buses feature Euro-3 turbocharged engines with auto fire suppression system, fire-retardant school
bus seats with height adjusting retractable integrated seat belts, super cooled air conditioning, fully pneumatic brakes with ABS, built-in CCTV systems, passenger door sensors to prevent accidental closure, LED destination boards, and roof hatches and emergency exits on all sides.
ANGE has a strong history of providing high quality bus fleets that feature state-of-the-art safety, comfort and infotainment features tailored to UAE conditions, and will continue to meet and exceed safety standards required by authorities and provide a comfortable travelling environment for the students.

The smuggler
Eldarir had arrived at JFK in January 2020 with three suitcases, containing goods he valued at $300, when he was directed to a search area.
Officers found 41 gold artefacts among the bags, including amulets from a funerary set which prepared the deceased for the afterlife.
Also found was a cartouche of a Ptolemaic king on a relief that was originally part of a royal building or temple.
The largest single group of items found in Eldarir’s cases were 400 shabtis, or figurines.
Khouli conviction
Khouli smuggled items into the US by making false declarations to customs about the country of origin and value of the items.
According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, he provided “false provenances which stated that [two] Egyptian antiquities were part of a collection assembled by Khouli's father in Israel in the 1960s” when in fact “Khouli acquired the Egyptian antiquities from other dealers”.
He was sentenced to one year of probation, six months of home confinement and 200 hours of community service in 2012 after admitting buying and smuggling Egyptian antiquities, including coffins, funerary boats and limestone figures.
For sale
A number of other items said to come from the collection of Ezeldeen Taha Eldarir are currently or recently for sale.
Their provenance is described in near identical terms as the British Museum shabti: bought from Salahaddin Sirmali, "authenticated and appraised" by Hossen Rashed, then imported to the US in 1948.
