Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD), a national entity owned by the Abu Dhabi government, has reviewed the progress of development schemes it is funding in Bahrain under a Dh9.19 billion development programme to help boost the kingdom’s housing, healthcare, water and transportation sectors.
A technical delegation of ADFD visited the project sites in the country, including the Dh3.7bn Bahrain International Airport expansion project and met with Bahraini government officials, ADFD said in a statement on Sunday.
The projects are being implemented as part of the grant provided by the UAE to Bahrain within the framework of the GCC development programme for the Arabain Gulf country. ADFD, which helps developing countries achieve sustainable economic growth and reduce poverty by providing financial resources and forging partnerships in the public and private sectors, has allocated Dh10.5bn in total towards financing 26 development projects in Bahrain since 1974.

"The GCC development programme for Bahrain, commissioned in 2013, is a sustainable model of development support extended by the UAE to Bahrain and managed by ADFD," Mohammed Al Suwaidi, the fund's director general said. "We have worked together to achieve the kingdom's sustainable development goals across a broad spectrum of economic sectors."
ADFD said projects are on track for delivery on schedule.
The airport expansion scheme, which will allow Bahrain to accommodate more than 14 million passengers a year, is nearly 40 per cent complete, with phase one slated for handover by the second quarter of 2019. The project aims to support the Bahraini aviation sector and will have a positive impact on related sectors including tourism, trade and transportation.
The other development schemes reviewed by ADFD include Dh2.5bn housing project in the Northern City; Dh900 million reclamation works at Eastern Sitra housing project; the Dh440m sewage treatment plant, Dh330m Sheikh Zayed road expansion scheme, Dh550m Mohammed Bin Khalifa Specialist Cardiac Centre and Dh150m water supply network development.

Real estate tokenisation project
Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.
The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.
Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.
