DIFC Week postponded until 2010

This year's DIFC Week has been postponed until the first quarter of 2010 to avoid conflict with other major international events taking place in Dubai, according to organisers of the annual event designed to bring regional and global financiers together. The programme of conferences, which was organised for November 22-24, features economic leaders from the regional and global financial worlds. Event organisers said they had decided to postpone this year's event until the first quarter of 2010. "This has been done to avoid conflict with major international events taking place in Dubai, including the World Economic Forum's Global Agenda, scheduled for 20 - 22 November, which coincides with the dates for DIFC Week." a DIFC statement read. "This poses several logistics and venue-related challenges. The final date for DIFC week will be announced shortly," it added.

During last year's event, official government figures on Dubai's debt were announced and a two-day platform was provided to discuss the impacts of the global financial crisis on the region. In 2007, the event attracted over 100 speakers. shamdan@thenational.ae
