A United Airlines plane dropped debris across Colorado on Saturday during an emergency landing following engine failure.
One unconfirmed social media account reported a "loud boom" from an overhead plane before metal started "raining down".
The United Airlines Flight UA 328A flight was bound for Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu but suffered a right engine failure after departing Denver International Airport, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said in a statement.
The Broomfield Police Department said on Twitter that the Boeing 777-200 landed safely back at the Denver airport and that no injuries had been reported from the incident.
Photos posted by the police department showed large circular pieces of debris leaning against a house in the suburb about 25 miles (40km) north of Denver.
Debris was also bestrewn across Broomfield's Commons Park and the police advised locals to steer clear of the area.
The FAA confirmed it would be investigating the incident with the National Transportation Safety Board.
